Shamanism is ancient spiritual practice that involves a practitioner reaching altered states of consciousness in order to perceive and interact in the spirit world to bring about change here in this world.

Shamanism is an ancient practice which also incorporates healing and is moreover, a whole way of life. It is a way to connect with nature... and all of creation too in its various forms. The word shaman originates from the Tungus area in Siberia although most people are not practicing Mongolian shamanism. Shamanism has become an umbrella term for relateable trance state practices, all which have their own local terms, ancestors and ways to practice.

 

Anthropologists coined this term and have used it to refer to the spiritual and ceremonial leaders among indigenous cultures worldwide. The word shamanism can be used to describe the ancient spiritual practices of these indigenous cultures. The countless similarities between various ancient traditions play a role in the continual generalisation of the word.

Shamanism is the world’s oldest spiritual path incorporating practical strategies for both survival and healing. It is both a nature and spirit based path.

Shamanic practice and animism are cross-cultural spiritual paths practiced in every continent of the world. It is similar everywhere even though, throughout history there had been little contact between shamans in widely divergent parts of the world.
